So after writing such a riveting article on my new-found love for myfitnesspal.com, with the start of the new school year I decided to return to Weight Watchers. Why? Well there are several reasons but none of them have to do with myfitnesspal. I LOVE My Fitness Pal. It’s just I lack the discipline to commit to it at this time. Apparently the only way I can stay committed to tracking calories is if I know I’m paying good money to do so. So back to Weight Watchers I go. Yes, this is sad but it’s true. This time I’ve decided that to really make health and fitness a habit I will try the system for more than 3 months. I’ll probably try 6 months to a year…or longer. Although I was confident I had grasped all I needed to learn the first time around, apparently I hadn’t learned what to do when you hit a a snag or rather a gigantic boulder in the road and crash. So like my mom always says, “If you get lost, just start from the beginning.” That’s exactly what I’m doing. I mean I’ve done it before and I can do it again…Right?

Happy Health and Fitness,

G

Sidenote: Since rejoining Weigh Watchers I’ve lost a total of 17.4 in 6 weeks. (I know that’s a little bit fast but I’m happy to be making some progress.) :~) IT WORKS PEOPLE! It does!

American actor and comedian Donald Glover at P...

Hello out there cyboys and cygirls,

I’m back!!! It’s the first of the month and you know what that means… It’s time for our Featured Song of the Month!!!

This month I’ve decided to go with an artist I have admired for a some time now. You may know him as  Donald Glover, but to those who follow his music he’s lovingly called Gambino; that’s Childish Gambino. This artist whose lyrical prowess is anything but childish, has been on the underground hip-hop scene for a while. Not only is a talented rapper and actor, he is an accomplished comedian and television writer. If you check out his blog, you’ll see that Mr. Glover has a penchant for clothes, food, music, women, and “generaldopness.” The comedic actor who has often talked about and capitalized on his “black nerd” status, has in recent years gained a lot of attention for his recurring role as Troy on the hit-tv show “Community.”

With the drop of his recent EP, Gambino has been pushed further into the limelight as his song Freaks and Greeks was featured in a recent Champs Sports/Adidas commercial featuring Dwight Howard. With that said, I can definitely say this is Gambino’s time. And although this song is from an earlier LP (I Do Not Talk) which was recently re-released, it’s definitely noteworthy. Although I don’t look better in real tight sweaters, this song’s cheeky upbeat vibe and throwback beats makes it a perfect hit for the summer.

Check it out.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!!!

Check out this article from cocoandcreme.com  about some FABULOUS Plus-Size designers. Although the article entitled “Top Plus-Size Fashion Designers” does list several fantastic designers, I am shocked to see they neglected to add Yuliya Raquel of Igigi.com. I have rocked several of her designs personally. I have to say they are comfortable, sexy, and very flattering. I’m not the only one. Others who have worn her wears include Jill Scott and Nikki Blonsky.

However out of the designers listed one my personal favorites is Tennille White! This sista’s designs have been gracing Chicago streets for a while and after seeing her gorgeous frocks on BET’sRip the Runway 2011″ I was begging for more. Also featured is Monif C. She is definitely a veteran on the plus-size fashion scene and her swimwear this season is simply gorgeous. I mean, stop-and-stare gorgeous. So I hope you all with check out all the designers sites, (I definitely did!) and pick up a few items for yourself.

Happy Shopping,

G

As promised I’m coming back to you with a new song of the month. “Shame” is one of the many amazing tracks on Miss Jill Scott’s highly anticipated new album “The Light of the Sun” *.  Now, I’m not sure how many of you are into Neo-Soul, but I have been a fan of Neo-Soul and Miss Jill Scott‘s since I was little. Not only is she a Plus-Size Diva in every sense of the word, but she is an amazingly inspirational woman. Her talent is vast and widespread: Actress, Poet, Singer and Mother, Miss Jill Scott has been a staple in the black community and in directly the Plus-size community. And “Shame” does not lack Miss Scott’s usual style and confidence. The song, which features Eve and The A Group, is a spirited testament of ferocity in a woman who knows her worth. Thus, it is our Featured Song of the Month. Check out the video below, and listen to other tracks from “The Light of the Sun” on youtube.

* “The Light of the Sun” drops June 21.
